Microneedling Long Island
What is Microneedling?
Skin-needling, also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT) or microneedling procedure is a process that allows your skin’s own natural abilities to heal itself and in return helps to produce collagen and elastin to help eliminate fine lines and wrinkles.
The technique uses 12 sterile tiny micro-needles that create several controlled micro-injuries to your skin. By doing so, the small micro-channels that are created initiate the repair process of the skin into naturally generating elastin and collagen which are both ideal elements for smoothing your wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, and traumatic scars. The micro-channels that are created through this treatment allow for the maximum absorption of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and other topical products thus boosting their effects within the deeper skin layers.
What is PRP?
PRP (or platelet rich plasma) is essentially a concentration of platelets in the human blood crucial for wound healing. When it is used for skin rejuvenation, it releases into the skin crucial growth factors to speed up the repair process of your body and stimulate new elastin and collagen.
The PRP is created from your own body. A small blood sample is extracted and the Platelet plasma gets separated from the other elements. It then gets topically applied immediately to your skin followed by a skin needling procedure.
The repair process takes place very rapidly and will result in a thicker dermal surface which will reduce or eliminate wrinkles and scarring. During your Long Island microneedling procedure, Dr. Jacono uses the MicroPen™. This device allows for no tissue destruction as the small microchannels it creates close up very quickly and the healing process begins right away.
How Microneedling Works
The micro-channels that are created using microneedling provide direct pathways to your skin’s deeper layers for optimal wound healing. The application is a suitable treatment approach even for increasing plumpness.
Depending on the needle penetration depth, the needling pen offers skin rejuvenation levels that can range from the simple product absorption enhancement to the clinical management of wrinkles and scars. Although the primary treatment areas are the neck and face, skin needling may also be successfully employed on any other body areas especially the hands.
Benefits to Microneedling
The benefits are younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging through the reduction of wrinkles and fine lines. Other benefits can be seen on hypo-pigmentation, traumatic scars, and acne scars. Generally, it creates a glow to the skin for a fresher appearance. All this is achieved without the heat trauma associated with lasers or other similar treatment devices.
Repeat microneedling treatment is exceptionally effective when used for acne scars, particularly when it is used with the Platelet Rich Plasma and MicroPen™ application. It is also suitable for all types of skin, including darker skin that is generally not suitable candidates for laser therapy, for example, those of Asian, Latino, and African American descent.
Other benefits include:
- Dramatically boosts the penetration and effectiveness of active ingredients in the topical preparation
- Stimulates the production of collagen and circulation
- The medical-grade titanium needles that are used make it non-allergenic to the human tissue
- It is suitable for use on all scalp areas, face, and body as well as skin areas that are fragile like around the eyes, neck, mouth, neck, and your hands
- Compared to other skin resurfacing procedures, it is highly cost-effective.
After a Micro-Needling Procedure
Following your microneedling at our Long Island office, your skin will be flushed and red, something similar to a mild case of sunburn which can last for a few hours and up to a few days. In addition, you could experience mild peeling, tightness, and mild swelling. Any side effects are basically temporary and in about 3 days, they will typically resolve. Total healing time may be dependent on the treatment depth, skin condition, and skin type. Some of our Long Island patients even heal completely within 24 hours.
Typically, patients will notice an immediate glow although visible improvement can take roughly between 2 and 4 weeks, and could be continued for up to six months.
Cost of Microneedling on Long Island
Microneedling costs will vary from patient to patient, depending on factors such as the treatment areas and the severity of your skin imperfections. Add-on treatments such as PRP can cause the price to climb. Most patients can expect to undergo 3-4 microneedling appointments in order to reach their aesthetic goals, with each session scheduled 4-6 weeks apart. Our practitioners will provide you with a detailed quote for services at the time of your private consultation.
