Chemical Peels Long Island
What is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel is a skincare treatment that involves applying a topical chemical to your face to cause exfoliation and peeling, to reveal softer and smoother skin. It works by exfoliating the top damaged layer of your skin and stimulates collagen production. By helping to remove sun-damaged layers of skin, chemical peels are a great way to recapture younger-looking and more radiant skin.
When combined with an anti-aging skincare regimen from J Spa Medical Spa, our Long Island chemical peels are an excellent option to consider.
How do Chemical Peels Work?
At J Spa Medical Spa in Long Island, we use the Jessner chemical peel which is a popular medium depth peel that improves your skin’s health by removing dead and damaged skin cells. The damage that is caused by the sun and other factors can leave our skin dry and wrinkled. The Jessner peel not only exfoliates the top layer of skin, but it also penetrates deep into the dermal layer causing collagen production to increase and heal your skin.
The Jessner peel incorporates three main ingredients which include a lactic acid to exfoliate the skin, salicylic acid which helps to penetrate the dermis, and resorcinol which breaks down rough, scaly, or hardened skin. Within two to three days following the treatment, a natural peeling will begin to take place. This process helps to remove the dead outer layer of skin cells and begins the healing process to reveal younger, healthier skin. While one treatment is all that some patients require, many patients require a series of Jessner peels administered every four to six weeks to achieve their desired results.
Benefits to a Jessner Chemical Peel include:
- Improve skin complexion
- Reduce appearance of acne scars
- Smooth fine lines and wrinkles
- Reduce appearance of large pores
- Help reduce acne
- Restores healthy youthful glowing skin
- Can be used to lighten skin discoloration areas
- Assist with melasma
What should I expect from a Chemical Peel?
Patients may experience a warm, stinging sensation as the peel activates on the skin. Following your Long Island chemical peel, your skin will feel tight and dry and will have a slight redness. It may also be sensitive. The peeling process will begin after 48 hours and should last for up to a week. During that time, your skin may darken and look more damaged before the new fresh skin is revealed. You should avoid strenuous activities during that time. Once all the old damaged skin has peeled away, you will be left with younger, healthy, glowing skin.
There are no serious side effects that are associated with a Jessner Peel. You should experience some skin redness and mild general discomfort during the procedure, though.
